The U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) class successfully launched sea-based missiles at a land-based target for the first time during a proof of concept exercise, on May 12. Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Montgomery (LCS 8) fired three AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire missiles to strike a land-based target several nautical miles away as part of the LCS surface-to-surface mission module (SSMM).

As reported by Liu Xuanzun in Global Times, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's second Type 055 large destroyer, the Lhasa, recently passed a full-course training assessment that comprehensively tested the vessel's air defense, maritime attack and anti-submarine capabilities in mock battles. The warship with more than 10,000 tons of displacement is 100 percent ready for far sea missions beyond the first island chain.

Earlier in 2022, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems alongside the Israeli Navy and Ministry of Defense Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) successfully completed a series of tests on Rafael’s C-GEM naval system. C-GEM is an innovative shipborne off-board RF Active Decoy (RFAD) system protecting naval vessels from anti-ship missiles through electromagnetic spectrum manipulation. C-GEM jams and deceives threats from multiple directions, independent of ship maneuvers.

Elbit Systems UK has officially started operating the existing Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS) in the next step of its Royal Navy Transformation programme within Team Fisher. Team Fisher is the Capita-led consortium modernising and transforming the Royal Navy and Royal Marines shore-based training. This marks a significant milestone for Elbit Systems UK’s role as the Synthetic Training Integrator, and is a key step in the modernisation of the Royal Navy’s training as part of the Selborne Programme. As part of this transfer of responsibility, Elbit Systems UK will be taking on over 60 further personnel across a range of roles from engineering to manufacturing in locations across the UK.
