One of the most powerful visiting vessel at DIMDEX 2018, the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference, was the U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer (DDG) USS Sampson. Navy Recognition interviewed the combat systems officer to bring you an overview focusing on the main weapon and sensor systems fitted aboard the ship.

Leonardo is on board of the “Multi-Mission European Frigate” (FREMM) ITS Carlo Margottini, which departed from La Spezia in Italy on 20th February 2018. Leonardo supports Margottini’s mission with its advanced naval solutions, which are on board the Frigate itself. These cutting-edge capabilities are derived from over 50 years of experience in the design and implementation of naval systems and through managing large and complex programs.

The Qatar Emiri Naval Forces have ordered two cadet training ships (CTS) from Turkish shipbuilder Anadolu Shipyard during the DIMDEX exhibition held in Qatar between March 12 and 14.The 90-meter ships will be constructed with practical and theoretical training facilities for cadets and instructors, the shipbuilder said.According to Anadolu Shipyard, the vessels will displace 1,950 tonnes and feature a helipad for a medium-size helicopter. The vessels are also set to be capable of performing offshore patrol duties.

During DIMDEX 2018, the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX), CAE was awarded a subcontract from Leonardo Helicopters to provide the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) with a comprehensive NH90 helicopter training solution. The contract is valued at more than C$150 million.

The Ministry of Defence of Qatar has announced a contract today for the purchase of 28 NH90 medium twin-engine multirole military helicopters. The deal was announced during the DIMDEX Exhibition in Doha in the presence of the Italian Minister of Defence Roberta Pinotti and Leonardo Chief Executive Officer Alessandro Profumo.

MBDA has a long-lasting consolidated cooperation with the Italian Navy to whom has supplied over the years: air defence systems and anti-air/antiship missiles. The Italian Navy FREMM units are equipped with the SAAM-ESD (Surface Anti-Air Missile – Extended Self Defence) air defence system based on Aster missiles and the Teseo MK2A/Otomat long range ship-borne anti-ship missile system. Also the NH90 NFH and AW101 helicopters on board the FREMM can be equipped with the helicopter version of the anti-ship missile of the Marte family.

The Italian Navy’s FREMM Frigate “Carlo Margottini”, designed and built by Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, is attending the 6th edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference, DIMDEX 18, one of the leading events in the global maritime defence and security industry, which is ongoing this week in Qatar.

The Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX 2018) today hosted prominent naval defence commanders, thought-leaders and experts from different parts of the world, at the anticipated Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) titled “Building Capabilities in Challenging Environments through Visionary International Military Cooperation and Defence Engagement”, under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, and sponsored by Raytheon.

KONGSBERG has signed a cooperation agreement in Qatar for long-term technology development programs within defence, maritime industry and digitalization. The first programme in relation to the cooperation will be delivery of communication, digitalization and tower solutions for military vehicles. The programme has a potential of approximately NOK 15 billion over the next eight years and will be the largest in KONGSBERG’s history.

H.E. Major General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, on behalf of His Excellency Lieutenant General (Pilot) Ghanem Bin Shaheen Al-Ghanem, Chief of General Staff of Qatar Armed Forces, inaugurated the exhibition of visiting warships that Qatar welcomed at Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2018) at Hamad Port, one of the largest ports in the Middle East. H.E visited the port and a number of warships in the presence of official delegations, guests and Qatar Armed Forces and Qatari Emiri Navy officers.
