According to information published by the Russian MoD on February 8, 2022, a detachment of large landing ships (LLS) of the Russian Navy began passing the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits. The crews are making a planned transition from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, where they will take part in naval exercises.

Currently, the Korolev, Minsk, and Kaliningrad LLS are located in the Dardanelles Strait. The landing ships Ivan Gren class Pyotr Morgunov, Ropucha-class Georgy Pobedonosets, and Olenegorsky Gornyak will pass through the Black Sea Straits during the next day.
Earlier, a detachment of large landing ships made a call at the logistics point of the Russian Navy on the Mediterranean coast, where they replenished fuel and lubricants, drinking water, and food.
In accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for 2022, a series of naval exercises are held in January-February in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
The exercises will cover the waters of the seas adjacent to the Russian territory, as well as operationally important areas of the World Ocean. Separate exercises are conducted in the waters of the Mediterranean, Northern, Okhotsk Seas, in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific Ocean.
The Ivan Gren class, Russian designation Project 11711, is a class of landing ships that is being built for the Russian Navy. The class was to be composed of two vessels, Ivan Gren and Pyotr Morgunov, but later it was announced that the Russian Navy intends to acquire several more vessels of a modified design.
The vessels of the class have a displacement of 5,000–6,000 tons and are able to carry up to 13 main battle tanks or 36 armored personnel carriers and 300 marines.
