Vietnamese Gepard 3.9-class frigate Quang Trung completes exercise MILAN 2022


According to information published by Vietnamplus on March 16, 2022, Vietnam People's Navy's Gepard 3.9-class frigate, Quang Trung, has arrived back at Cam Ranh Military Port, completing the sea phase of the multilateral naval exercise MILAN 2022 which took place in the northern India city of Visakhapatnam from February 25 to March 4.

Quang Trung (HQ-016) is a Gepard-class frigate (Gepard 3.9 type) in the Vietnam People's Navy. The VPN contracted the Zelenodolsk shipyard in Russia to build the ship.

The Russian Gepard-class frigates (Project 11661) is a class of frigates that were intended as successors to the earlier Koni-class frigates and Grisha, and Parchim-class corvettes.

Gepard 3.9 is designed to search, track and fight against the surface, underwater, and air enemy independently and within the task force, plant minefields, provide protection and patrol of the maritime state border and exclusive economic zone, perform combat missions, patrol service.

Powered by gas-turbine engines with CODOG configuration. Fitted with two inclined quadruple launchers for eight Kh-35 anti-ship missiles with the capability to be featured with VLS systems such as UKSK (for cruise missiles such as Club-N and Yakhont) and Shtil-1 air-defense system.
