HMS Tyne, HMS Portland, and P8 Poseidon aircraft stationed at RAF Lossiemouth meticulously observed the movements of the Russian Navy, spanning areas from the English Channel to the North Atlantic.

Among the Russian vessels under watch included the corvettes Boikiy and Grad, cruiser Marshal Ustinov, the Udaloy-class destroyer Severomorsk, and several others.

Plymouth's HMS Portland collaborated with the Poseidon aircraft in this surveillance operation, demonstrating the UK's powerful sea and air monitoring capabilities.

Equipped with advanced sensors, the British maritime patrol units ensure persistent surveillance, with the aircraft's ability to swiftly communicate a detected vessel's location to warships for interception.

Many Russian vessels observed were believed to be in conjunction with the Russian Navy Day celebrated in St. Petersburg on July 30. Additionally, the Portsmouth-anchored HMS Tyne tracked three separate Russian ships, including the Steregushchiy-class corvette Merkury and the research vessel Akademik Nikolaj Strakhov, relieving NATO warships of their duties in the process.

On 20 March 2021, the corvette Boikiy, accompanied by LSTs Korolyov, Minsk, and Kaliningrad transited the English Channel unannounced. The ship with the landing ship Minsk returned to the Baltic Sea on March 27, 2021.
