The significant occasion was marked by the traditional keel laying ceremony, which was attended by notable attendees from Saab, the Polish Armament Agency, the Polish Navy, Remontowa Holding, and other special guests.

In November 2022, Saab won the contract to design and manufacture two SIGINT vessels for the Polish Navy, which included integrating complex mission systems. Remontowa Shipbuilding SA, a Polish enterprise, was selected as the subcontractor to construct the vessels locally.

SIGINT vessels play a critical role in gathering intelligence data, contributing to the comprehensive intelligence capabilities of naval operations.

Senior Vice President and head of Saab’s business area Kockums, Mats Wicksell, remarked on the occasion, stressing the importance of reliability and availability in naval intelligence ship systems. He acknowledged the keel laying ceremony as a significant milestone in shipbuilding and expressed appreciation for the cooperation with their Polish partners, the Armament Agency, the Polish Navy, and Remontowa Holding.

The construction journey for the first ship officially began with the steel cutting on April 27, 2023.

SIGINT Ship

A spy ship is a vessel operated by a government, usually under naval or intelligence agencies, equipped with high-tech surveillance systems to gather intelligence.

These ships can sometimes be camouflaged as commercial vessels for stealth, and may also be used for the covert deployment of spies or special military units.
